A slipcast porcelain moneybox in the form of pig inside a purse. The pig is sticking out of the sides of the purse (or ‘poke’). The purse is chrome oxide green with gold coloured clasp, the pig is decorated in flesh colours with orange/red and black details. Flat unglazed base. German porcelain. c.1920-1925. AP/1421.

There are no exact matches shown in Stoddard or Huebner, but Stoddard shows a very similar version (Ceramic Coin Banks Identification & Value Guide, 1997, p.120, pl.557) and suggests that the manufacturer was Schafer & Vater, Germany. However the glaze colours and finish on the moneybox don’t appear to match those on other Schafer & Vater ceramics. Rarity rating unknown but probably ‘B-C”.

Condition Report:
There are several chips around edges of coin slot. Gold gilding is worn A small hairline (approx. 4cm) starts by front trotter and goes just under edge of base.
