Services

I have been involved with antique ceramics for over 40 years. During which time I have built a significant library of ceramics literature, and gained considerable experience in a variety of ceramics fields, as well as computing and photography.  (Please see my ‘About‘ page for a brief overview of my background and experience).

I am able to offer the following additional services:

Appraisals and Valuations:
I can offer accurate, realistic, and confidential written valuations and assessments (value, identification, authenticity, condition, age, research etc.) of single items to entire collections of ceramics or glass. As well as advise on sale and dispersal.
Please note that I am unable to provide free valuations nor legal documentation for probate or insurance.

Curation and Cataloguing of Collections
My work with collections and museum exhibitions, combined with my qualifications in business databases, as well as managing my own large collections, has taught me a great deal about curation and cataloguing. I can work on everything from designing and printing collector’s labels to sorting, assessing, photographing and recording entire collections.

Photography Services
I have taken many thousands of photographs of pots over the years. I have learned by trial and error and even a little tuition from professionals along the way. Please don’t judge my photography on the photos in the gallery pages of this site – many were taken a very long time ago and all photos on this site are low resolution online versions.
I currently use high-end digital mirrorless cameras and colour-balanced high CRI lighting in a dedicated studio. Post-production I use professional Adobe Lightroom software for management of very large photo catalogues. I can photograph your individual items or entire collections for you. I can also take photos for publication purposes for authors.

Selling Your Items For You
I may be interested in buying items from you (strictly only antique ceramics and glass) or even whole collections. However please have realistic expectations and appreciate that I am running a business with overheads and need to operate with a sufficient margin.
Another option is that I try and sell your items for you from my website and earn a commission when they sell. In this case I will need to insist upon viewing the items first hand to make my own assessment of condition and authenticity etc..

Acting as Your Agent at Auction
I am sometimes asked to act as an agent to attend auctions to inspect particular lots in person on your behalf (some auction houses are notoriously rather short-sighted and sparse on detail with condition reports). I can also bid as your agent and store items until amalgamated with other auction purchases for single shipping if required. These arrangements need to be worked out on an individual and mutuably agreeable basis.

© Copyright and Supplying Photos
I can supply high quality digital copies of any of the images on this site as well as many thousands more from my collections library. If you wish to use any of my photos (or text) then please contact me to discuss your requirements and appropriate royalties (very modest in comparison to what most museums will charge, or at no cost if I deem that your usage is non-commercial).
All images and text on this website are strictly © copyright. I always take action when my copyright material is infringed (All © copyright material is protected by international law).

Lectures, Workshops & Classes
I have given numerous talks and workshops about antique ceramics as well as teaching pottery making classes. In settings including schools, colleges, museums and local history societies. I can tailor a presentation or workshop to suit your particular needs. Please enquire.

If you are interested in any of the services I offer then please contact me with details of your requirements and to request quotations. My rates are very sensible and will take into account hours worked, distance travelled and any expenses incurred. I wear many hats but of course my time is limited so that unfortunately I am not always available, but I will try to accommodate all reasonable requests.
