A small earthenware inkwell in the form of a shoe. Thick dark brown treacleware glaze (or “Rockingham” glaze). Base is partially glazed. Pale yellow/buff coloured clay body. Probably made in Staffordshire.
Earthenware inkwells are fairly rare, but there are many varieties of shoe inkwells (I have counted at least 12 different versions so far).
