Jackfield glazed low-round teapot, spiral form with gold highlights.

£40.00

Availability: In stock

A black-glazed moulded teapot of low rounded form. The body, spout and lid are spiral lobed with gold gilding to all recesses. The handle is a rope twist type (possibly hand-modelled), also with gilding. The lid is pierced and has a deep inner rim and a moulded finial which resembles a fleur-de-lys. The spout has an internal hand-pierced seven hole strainer in a random formation. Shallow recessed base without any maker’s marks, but with three kiln furniture stilt (or trivet) scars.

This is an unusual teapot form for the period, though the low squat form does have similarities with tea sets made by Minton, Staffordshire, in the 1840s. This teapot was probably made in Staffordshire, maker unknown.
