£59.00

Availability: In stock

A pearlware plate with moulded shell edge. Clear glazed with underglaze (under-glaze) blue painted ‘Chinese House and Fence’ pattern. The house is single storey. Shallow recessed base with an impressed mark ‘I.H’ and ‘2’.

The IH mark is believed to be that of Joshua Heath of Hanley, Staffordshire, c.1770-1800, though this mark has previously been attributed to John Heath of Derby. (See Lois Roberts, NCS Journal vol.18, 2001, p.11-14). Most underglaze blue painted ware is unmarked and maker’s marks on this ware are extremely rare.
